Having done little by way of sightseeing in Łódź, we decide to try out four escape rooms in one day. Second on our schedule was The Matrix escape room run by Tkalnia Zagadek in Łódź.

If you have seen the movie, you know what to expect. Sort of.
What did we think of the Matrix escape room in Łódź?
The game begins in a room reminiscent of the Nebuchadnezzar, Morpheus’ hovercraft in the movie. After Vampire Hunter, everything is surprisingly bright and shiny.
This is another game with a large playing area, split into three main phases. And once again, the game gets harder as you progress. Much, much harder.
There’s a few unusual technology-based puzzles that we have not encountered before. However, at least one of these is not at all intuitive and we waste a long time trying to solve the next puzzle lacking one key piece of information.
This delay ends up costing us the game.

We don’t particularly like games that rely on technology. For us they detract from the physical experience of an escape room – and they are often temperamental. But maybe that’s just us.

We don’t particularly like games that rely on technology. For us they detract from the physical experience of an escape room – and they are often temperamental. One particular clue has two stages – a fact that is almost guaranteed to be overlooked if you are used to one-and-done games.
Our games master may have allowed us to play on a little longer – if we didn’t have another game booked immediately afterwards. However, we had only just reached the final stage of the game, which meant there were another five or six puzzles to complete.
When we discussed our performance with the Tkalnia Zagadek team, they confirmed The Matrix is a very difficult room. They also claimed that the final puzzle is even harder than all that go before it. It may be that this is a game that really does need a team of four to crack it.
So yes, we were disappointed. But that’s because we like to win. Of the four games we played today, this was our least favourite.
