The Hard Rock Café Global Price Index

How far will your money go when travelling? That’s where the Hard Rock Café Global Price Index can help.

A Hard Rock Café sign to accompany the Hard Rock Café Global Price Index

The Hard Rock Café Global Price Index displays the cost of an ‘Original Legendary Burger’ and a large draught beer in the local currency. We’ve also included a converter in each section so you can translate the cost into your currency of choice.

How the Hard Rock Café Global Price Index works

Using an item that is standard across the world, you can easily understand how far your travel budget will stretch. Traditionally, the McDonalds Big Mac has been used as the yardstick for these comparisons. As people who never eat at McDonalds, the Big Mac simply doesn’t work.

So instead, we introduce the Hard Rock Café Price Index. Almost as ubiquitous as the Golden Arches, Hard Rock Café franchises can now be found in almost every corner of the globe. And because the menu is (almost) identical at every outlet, it’s a useful tool for comparing living costs. Where possible, we have tried to include local taxes too.

You may see some gaps in our analysis. Not every Hard Rock Café posts their menus online. Others do not include specific pricing. We will continue to try and track down the missing information and welcome help from anyone who has visited an HRC venue recently.

It’s also worth noting that you will almost certainly be charged some kind of service fee on top of the prices listed here. Expect to pay a minimum of 10% in ‘tips’.

Europe

Europe can lay claim to the world’s first Hard Rock Café (London) and the most expensive (Reykjavik). Even without a beer, Macedonia is likely the cheapest on the continent.

And special shout out to the Polish restaurants who have set a standard price – PLN 82.90 – across all four venues in the country.

United Kingdom

London – £25.40
The original Hard Rock Café has a ‘vault’ with additional musical memorabilia. This restaurant is still worth a visit, even if you don’t stop for food.

Piccadilly Circus (London) – £25.70
Located right in the heart of Piccadilly Circus. We’ve never gone further than the gift shop on the ground floor.

Manchester – £22.50

Edinburgh – £24.50

Austria

Innsbruck – €24.50

Vienna – €25.55
Still the only Hard Rock Café we have visited with a throne.

Belgium

Brussels – €29.70
Offers a fantastic view over the Grand Place – if you get there early enough. Head to the top floor to spot some original sketches by artists like John Lennon, Pete Townshend and Bono. Skip the burger and enjoy a Belgian waffle.

Croatia

Dubrovnik – €29.90

Cyprus

Ayia Napa – €20.50

Czech Republic

Prague – CZK 610
One of the few HRC restaurants we have visited several times. Food and drink are pricey by Prague’s standards, but there is plenty of memorabilia to check out.

We suggest checking out the Black Angels Bar at Hotel U Prince just up the road for a proper cocktail.

Denmark

Copenhagen – DKK 274
Ultimately quite disappointing, with little memorabilia and zero atmosphere.

Germany

Berlin – €27.45
Just off the busy Kurfürstendamm, you know what to expect as you climb the stairs.

Cologne – €26.90
We have visited this Café twice.

Hamburg – Prices currently unavailable
Located near the docks, we walked all the way from Steinwerder Cruise Terminal, through the Old Elbe Tunnel to have a beer here.

Munich – €27.90
Probably one of the least exciting venues we have visited. Suggest grabbing your pin badge from the gift shop then heading across the road to the much more interesting Hofbräuhaus for beer.

Greece

Athens – €23.20

Hungary

Budapest – HUF 9400

Iceland

Reykjavik – ISK 5480
The most expensive entry on the Hard Rock Global Price Index. We arrived in Reykjavik too early in the day for food or drink, so can’t comment on either. Consider having a local beer at Bastard Brew instead.

Ireland

Dublin – €24.50

Italy

Florence – €27.45

Milan – €29.95

Rome – €27.70

Venice – €30.10

To be fair, this may be one of the cheaper eateries in Venice…

Malta

Malta Airport – €22.55

Netherlands

Amsterdam – €31.45
Expensive and sorely lacking in memorabilia, this has to be one of the most disappointing venues on the Hard Rock Café Global Price Index.

North Macedonia

Podgorica – €9.90 (Burger only, beer prices unavailable)

Norway

Tromso – NOK 299 (beer prices unavailable)
Located inside the Arctic Circle, this is the most northerly HRC on the planet. It’s also a long walk from the Breivika Cruise Terminal. Another surprisingly small memorabilia collection but the shop is well stocked.

Poland

Gdansk – PLN 82.90
Situated in the heart of the Old Town, this is actually a genuinely good restaurant.

Krakow – PLN 82.90
Located in a prime spot overlooking the Rynek, the food and merch is average, but the view is fantastic.

Warsaw – PLN 82.90
One of Linda’s all-time favourites because the bartender never seemed too worried about cocktail measures.

Wrocław – PLN 82.90

Portugal

Lisbon – €25.95
This Café is a serious hike up the hill from the cruise terminal over some of the worst sidewalks in Europe. And we arrived before they opened properly. This particular restaurant does seem to have a decent amount of memorabilia to look at.

Porto – €24.75

Romania

Bucharest – RON 91
Located outside the city centre in a pleasant park, this was the first HRC we ever visited. And it is one of the better ones too.

Spain

Barcelona – €25.20

Gran Canaria – €20.90
Relatively cheap by Spanish standards, this HRC is not the easiest to get to – particularly for wheelchair/scooter users. It also has one of the smallest memorabilia collections we’ve ever seen. It has a great view of the car park though.

This is a decent way to end a day visiting Sioux City – if you have any energy left.

Madrid – Prices currently unavailable

Malaga – €24.70

Mallorca – €24.70

Tenerife – €24.70

Sweden

Gothenburg – SEK 308
The Winter Olympics was on while we visited so the usual wall-to-wall music videos were on hold.

Stockholm – SEK 327
Distinctly unmemorable and quite grubby from the outside. We actually thought the restaurant may have closed down.

North America

USA

The cheapest Hard Rock Café is the outlet in Tampa, Florida, charging $27.64. Tampa also happens to be the base of the Seminole tribe who now own the HRC brand. The most expensive beer and burger is (unsurprisingly) found in New York at Yankee Stadium – $32.38.

It’s worth noting that there are many other North American HRC locations (Chicago, Nashville, Miami etc). However, these restaurants do not list prices so they are currently omitted from the Hard Rock Café Global Price Index.

Prices for US restaurants have been adjusted to include city taxes. Tips are at your discretion, but you will probably be expected to leave ~15% on top of the prices listed below.

Atlanta, GA – Prices currently unavailable

Atlantic City, NJ – $30.92

Baltimore, MD – $28.08

Biloxi, MS – $29.42

Foxwoods, Ledyard, CT – $28.18

Honolulu, HI – $30.30

Las Vegas, NV – $31.42

Los Angeles, CA – $30.72

Miami, FL – Prices currently unavailable
Located in the Bayside district, the most interesting thing about Hard Rock Café Miami is the strange shape of the building.

Myrtle Beach, SC – $28.88

New Orleans, LA – $29.14

New York, NY – $31.57
Astonishingly, this HRC is one of the cheapest places to get a beer in the Times Square district of Manhattan.

Yankee Stadium, New York, NY – $32.38

Niagara Falls, NY – $27.26

Philadelphia, PA – $28.61

San Antonio, TX – $28.41

San Francisco, CA – $31.50

Tampa Airport, FL – $31.94

Tampa, FL – $27.64

Central America

Menus for Hard Rock Cafés in Central America are hard to come by. So as things stand, Panama City is by far the cheapest restaurant on the Hard Rock Café Global Price Index to grab a beer and a burger, costing just USD $18.50

Dominican Republic

Punta Cana – Prices currently unavailable

Santo Domingo – Prices currently unavailable

Mexico

Cabo San Lucas – MXD $325 (beer prices not published)

Guadalajara – Prices currently unavailable

Panama

Panama City – USD $19.95
The Panamanian HRC bills in US dollars. Their memorabilia display is quite small and the music is most definitely not hard rock, but they go all out for Halloween!

Puerto Rico

Ponce – USD $25.36 (including sales tax)

South America

According to the official menus hosted at hardrock.com, Paramaribo in Suriname is home to the world’s cheapest Original Legendary Steak Burger, costing a mere $0.49. Call us sceptical, but this seems a little too good to be true. More likely, the Paramaribo HRC is using a generic menu with USD pricing as a placeholder.

At the other end of the South American section of the Hard Rock Café Global Price Index is Puerto Maduro in Argentina, charging prices that are almost double everywhere else in South America.

Argentina

With six restaurants, the Hard Rock Café seems to be a popular brand in Argentina.

Caracas – Prices currently unavailable

Asia

At $41.65 for a beer and burger, it’s no surprise to discover that the world’s second most expensive Hard Rock Café is located in Dubai. That’s nearly 3.5x the cost of the exact same meal in the Philippines!

Cambodia

* These prices seem too low. It seems that both Cambodian cafés have uploaded generic menus with US pricing.

Africa

At $8.15, Johannesburg in South Africa is home to the cheapest Hard Rock Café in the world. However…. this is their lunch time menu deal where you receive a free beer with your burger. It is very likely that prices are more expensive in the evening.

At the other end of the scale, Lagos (Nigeria) is the most expensive, costing three times as much as Johannesburg. In fact, a beer and a burger is only $0.50 cheaper than the same meal at Tampa, USA!

Closing thoughts on the HRC Global Price Index

The Hard Rock Café Global Price Index is a work in progress, constantly updated as new information becomes available. All prices were correct at the time of publication, but we apologise in advance if any restaurant has failed to post pricing updates before you visit.

If you can provide photos of updated menus at any location, we would be grateful!

It’s also worth pointing out that Hard Rock Cafés tend to be much more expensive than standalone restaurants, regardless of where you find yourself. Franchises are eye-wateringly expensive (along with the rental fees for the memorabilia), and the prices charged for beer-n-burger reflect that.

By all means have a look at the displays, grab a beer and a pin from the merch shop – but consider eating elsewhere to help the local economy.
