Hotel prices range from the acceptable to the outrageous depending on where you stay in Łódź. For this trip, our choice of accommodation had to meet these requirements:
- Located in the city centre, on or near ul. Piotrkowska
- The building must have a lift
- The room must have air conditioning
…which is how we came to be staying in a holiday flat with the catchy name, “Piotrkowska Apt – AC, Top Location – by Rentujemy”.

Lowdown
Having left booking very late (the day before departure 😱) prices at the nicest (already expensive) hotels in town (Puro, Andel Vienna House, Grand) had skyrocketed. And so I chose the Apt Piotrkowska 37 apartment operated by Rentujemy.pl.
The apartment met all of our requirements, so I took a chance – and I’m glad I did.
The recently refurbished apartment is located on the fourth floor of a tenement block, set back from the sometimes noisy ul. Piotrkowska in an inner courtyard. This means it is surprisingly quiet, although there is a busy tramline behind the property.
Bedroom
The bedroom is a decent size, dominated by a large double bed. There’s also a built-in wardrobe and a small, narrow desk.
Because of the sloping ceiling, the windows are set almost at floor level, providing a view out onto the street behind the building. Importantly, the bedroom has its own air conditioner.
The bed is quite high and the mattress soft.
Although the room is fitted with blinds, they are not a “black out” variant. Light sleepers may wish to take an eye mask or risk being woken at dawn.
Living room
The sitting area offers an armchair, a sofa bed and another air conditioner. Notably, there is no TV anywhere in the apartment which is fine – but it means I have missed out on my dose of insane, surreal disco polo music videos.
Kitchen
Despite its small size, the kitchen is incredibly well appointed. There’s a stove, an electric tabletop oven, and a full-size sink. A kettle and a Nespresso coffee maker are a nice touch.
Hidden in the cupboards under the bench are a washing machine and a fridge. Above the worktop, more cupboards contain plates, cutlery, pans – everything needed for cooking simple meals. The only thing missing? A tea towel.
Top tip: The Stary Młyn pierogarnia at the entrance to the tenement is a great alternative to cooking. Don’t miss the Z czarnej głębi (cod fillet in black dough) pierogi which are truly excellent.
Bathroom
The bathroom is incredibly compact, but also well finished. There’s a shower cubicle with rainfall shower head, a tiny sink, and a toilet.
There are some small sachets of soap and shower gel to get you started. The only thing missing is a bath mat.
On the first morning of our stay, I did manage to flood the bathroom. My advice – carefully check the cubicle doors are properly aligned before starting the shower.
Top tip: Shower gel can be purchased from the Żabka store opposite – or from the Rossman pharmacy around the corner in ul. Zielona (where a bottle of own brand costs as little as £0.80)
Accessibility notes
There’s a couple of accessibility issues to consider when booking the Piotrokowska Apt:
- This apartment is not suitable for anyone who cannot walk a few steps. There are no accessibility features in the bathroom.
- There is a large metal lintel on the doorway to the lift on the fourth floor. We could not get Linda’s electric wheelchair to mount it.
- The stairs in the block are very slippery and the edges are badly chipped in several places. Be careful if you decide to skip the lift.
Check in procedure
This was a new one for us, with the entire checkin process being automated online. At 3pm on the day of check-in, you sign into a digital portal and leave your credit card details so the rental firm can secure a deposit for breakages.
You are then giving the necessary codes to access the building and a second code for the key safe, allowing you to unlock the door to the flat. The portal also shows the WiFi key so you can get your devices connected.
We didn’t use any additional services, but the portal allows you to arrange early check-in/late check-out, request cleaning services – probably for an additional charge. You can also ‘chat’ with the rental operator if you run into problems.
Check out process
Check out is simple:
- Wash up your plates and cutlery.
- Empty the bins.
- Lock the door
- Replace the keys in the key safe.
If you’re really lucky (we were!) you may find a taxi passing along Piotrkowska to take you straight to Łódź Airport.

The Pietrokowska Apt has a stupid name – but that’s the only thing wrong with it. The apartment met all of our needs – and exceeded expectations.
We really liked the flat and would definitely stay here again. In fact, I would happily live here. If you need comfortable, high quality accommodation in the centre of Łódź, the Piotrkowska Apt is an excellent option that won’t break the bank.
