It’s Linda’s birthday, so what better way to celebrate than with an escape room? Which is how we come to be writing this Karma Club escape room review…
Karma Club, Unlock the Night: Storyline
You have been double crossed by your record producer. He has released your debut album as his own, claiming all the fame and accolades that come with a smash hit. Rumour has it the prestigious Golden Record is showcased at the popular night spot, The Karma Club, and your band want revenge. Your mission is to go undercover to the Karma Club to take back what is rightfully yours.
Will you succeed or will Karma catch up with you?
What did we think of the Karma Club escape room in Sudbury?
Adam at Keylock Escapes in Wickford strongly recommended EO Escapes during our recent visit. So when it came time to choose a game for Linda’s birthday, Sudbury was the obvious destination.
The game begins with a briefing – and then a short walk to the building next door. We were each given an ID tag on a lanyard, and then locked in the foyer of the Karma Club.
The foyer gives way to an employee cloakroom, then on into the nightclub proper. It sounds simple, but there are a number of sneaky little puzzles in between. And that’s just the first part of the game – every time you think you may be approaching the end, there’s another padlock or code to be solved. This is a four player game because there are so many things to do – and some of them must be done by two or more players simultaneously.

Although the puzzles are our preferred one-and-done format, the game is non-linear, allowing you to work on any puzzle at any time. This is how the room could conceivably entertain 10 players at once. However, it also means that players will “miss” some of the puzzles and the genius design because they are concentrating on something else. It’s also important to note that you will find yourself moving backwards and forwards through the rooms to locate props and clues. Pay attention to everything because you will need it eventually.
As with many independent rooms, an exceptional amount of effort has gone into crafting an exceptional playing experience. There’s a particularly clever puzzle involving a black light for instance.
The theming is also excellent. This really could be a cheesy (albeit very small) nightclub – if the floors were stickier. Thankfully, they’re clean – because there’s a bit of crawling to be done inside the Karma Club.

Criticisms? Quirks?
When you have this much fun, there’s nothing to criticise. Well done games master Sam and the rest of the EO Escape team.
There is one quirk to note: a ‘+10 minute’ token. If you free the token and wave it at the camera, the games master adds an extra 10 minutes to your game time. Although we did find and play our token, we still managed to escape within 60 minutes.
Karma Club escape room review – conclusion
The true genius of this room is that everything is coherent and the puzzles make perfect sense. The theming is well executed and the room has been very well maintained. Again, credit to the EO Escape team.
EO Escape claim that Karma Club is their hardest room, and we can see why. But perhaps the true difficulty lies in just how many puzzles you have to solve, rather than their complexity.
The Karma Club escape room has won multiple, well-deserved awards over the years. And we’re happy to join the long list of satisfied players.
One thing to note: the Karma Club will shut its doors for the final time this December. So if you want to play, best make a booking today.
