Back in July 2022, A Coruña was our penultimate stop on a short cruise around the Bay of Biscay. On that visit, we took an excursion out to Santiago de Compostela, leaving little time to explore the A Coruña cruise port itself.
Although that trip was well worth the cost, we missed seeing A Coruña on foot. So a second port stop at the A Coruña cruise port gave us the perfect opportunity to have a quick look around the city.

In and out of the city
It’s important to note that the majority of our visit was taken up by a visit to the 7 Pecados Capitales escape room at Escapology. However, having chosen to complete the journey on foot, we got to see some of the city along the way from the A Coruña cruise port.
Initially we tried to book an escape room much closer to the cruise terminal, but they were unwilling to open before 4 pm – just 30 minutes before we set sail. This pushed us a bit further out from the port, but it still worked well for a short stop in the city.
We docked at the port around 7 am, just as the local nightclub opposite our berth was kicking out. There was a lot of noise as a few hundred young revellers drifted home.
After breakfast, we disembark from the ship to be greeted by Randy Raul and Clara Clothesoff, two life‑sized bronze statues who just happen to be completely naked. There’s no context, so we’re left wondering if this is the traditional Galician welcome.
Because it’s still early, the streets are quiet. This is brilliant because it allows us time to dawdle at our own pace – and we don’t have to worry about the scooter getting in anyone’s way. Architecturally, this is a pretty town, and I really enjoy the walk from the A Coruña cruise port into the city centre.
It’s a beautiful sunny day, so the walk is very pleasant.

At Marineda City, far from the A Coruña cruise port
The Escapology escape rooms are located on the second floor of an enormous mall called Marineda City, only a short distance from the A Coruña cruise port. If you’re on a cruise and need something specific – from snacks to souvenirs – you’re almost certain to find it here.
Also of note, the rest of the second floor is a gigantic food hall. So if you’re craving a taste of home (American, Chinese, Italian, German doner kebabs, etc.), this is the place to head for when you’re planning an A Coruña cruise port stop.
After the escape room, we get a taxi back into town (€9 – what a bargain!). With a couple of hours before the Sky Princess sails from the A Coruña cruise port, we take the opportunity to grab a geocache and an ice‑cold Estrella Galicia.

On the way out of the port, we’re afforded a fantastic view of the Tower of Hercules. Yes, we’ve seen it before, but it’s still an impressive spectacle – especially given its age and its position right next to the A Coruña cruise port.

Linda’s comment
The streets around the A Coruña cruise port were generally pretty good on my scooter. I was a little annoyed that the first escape room didn’t want to open earlier though!
A Coruña cruise port accessibility info
In general, the city itself is quite accessible from the A Coruña cruise port. Only once did we encounter a large kerb drop that forced Linda to dismount – and that was well outside the centre of the city, far from the main port area.
However, the city does make extensive use of textured concrete block paving. This is particularly jarring at times, making for an uncomfortable ride for scooters and other mobility devices when you’re exploring from the A Coruña cruise port.
- Batteries used: −195%
- Terrain: Generally pretty good. Note that the streets get steeper the further you get away from the A Coruña cruise port.
Would we visit A Coruña again?
If this port came up on an itinerary again, absolutely. A Coruña is an interesting, pretty town, and it would give us an excuse to visit MEGA, the Estrella Galicia brewery – and perhaps explore more of the city, like the Tower of Hercules too.
