Way out in the west of London for an Alice Cooper concert, we took the easy option and booked a night in the Premier Inn Hammersmith Talgarth Road. Here’s what we thought:
Cost: £79.00
Fair cost: £70.00

The low-down
We needed a hotel that was close to the Hammersmith Apollo and a nearby Underground station. Getting back to the East Coast is a nightmare late at night.
Initially we booked into the Holiday Inn Express Hammersmith for £135 including breakfast. Then we found the Premier Inn deal – £100.98 including breakfast.
Location
The Premier Inn ticked all of our boxes for location. It is a five minute walk from the Hammersmith Apollo. It is also five minutes from Barons Court station (Piccadilly and District lines). Hammersmith station (Circle and Hammersmith & City lines) is also nearby.

Perfect.
There is a large shopping centre across the road and numerous food outlets and restaurants within walking distance.

Check-in
There are three self-check-in kiosks. We managed to check-in on the third attempt – and then the kiosk refused to code our door keycards. Which meant we had to go to the regular check-in desk anyway.
We arrived around 3:30pm and reception was empty. There was a very long queue later in the afternoon.
Top tip: Check-in begins at 3pm
The room
The Premier Inn Hammersmith Talgarth Road has been refurbished recently. Thankfully the rooms are still in good condition.
We were allocated room 154 on the first floor at the end of a very, very long corridor. There are three fire doors between the lift and room 154 – none of which have an auto-open mechanism. This may be a serious problem for wheelchair users.
The double bed is very comfortable, but also quite high off the ground. The sheets and duvet were crisp and clean and more than acceptable.
We did note some odd noises late in the evening. The air conditioning is quite loud, as are the plumbing noises from other rooms.
The bathroom
Toilet, sink walk in shower. Pretty standard but also well cleaned. Bayliss & Harding soap and shower gel were perfectly acceptable. And the towels were soft and fluffy – excellent.

Yes, that is a door on the shower cubicle. Yes, it only covers half the gap. Yes, water does leak onto the bathroom floor.
Restaurant
The hotel has a large restaurant located on the ground floor. Open for breakfast and dinner, prices are surprisingly reasonable for London. Expect to pay £13-£15 for a main course (steak is more expensive, obviously).
Breakfast is also served in the restaurant. We opted for the unlimited cooked option that includes eggs, sausages, bacon, black pudding and more. Drinks are also included. £10.99 feels like a bargain.
The buffet is quite relaxed and not too overcrowded. The hotel guests are surprisingly well-behaved and polite too, making for a pleasant breakfast experience.
Top tip: Premier Inn offer a half-board option for £26.99 per person. This entitles you to a two-course dinner in the evening and unlimited breakfast in the morning. This seems like exceptionally good value for inner London.
Other nearby accommodation options
The Premier Inn Hammersmith Talgarth Road is the closest hotel to the Hammersmith Apollo. But as always, there are other options available if you are willing to walk slightly further:
There are also rental apartments available in the vicinity – but they seem to be much more expensive than the hotels. The Novotel London West is also very close and reasonably priced (for the area).
Overall rating
The Premier Inn Hammersmith Talgarth Road is still in good condition and very well priced for London. It’s perfect for anyone looking to crash after a gig at the Hammersmith Apollo.
With a choice of four Underground lines nearby (District, Piccadilly, Circle and Hammersmith & City) it is quick and easy to get into the city centre. Indeed, this Premier Inn may be an excellent choice for tourists coming from Heathrow Airport, but who don’t want to pay insane West End hotel prices.
Would we stay here again? Yes.
